The CHAISE MOOC pilot was implemented during the Spring 2024 semester at SAEK Aigaleo, targeting students specializing in IT applications with multimedia.
Topic
The pilot introduced the Blockchain Developer track, offering students hands-on experience in blockchain technology. The curriculum included critical skills like cryptography, smart contract development, coding (in Solidity), and distributed network engineering. Additionally, students engaged with frontend and backend development and the creation of decentralized application (dApp coding in Solidity).
The course was structured into the MOOC modules that combined video lectures, practical exercises, and case studies, with students expected to study key components like security and digital identity outside of class. Despite the significant time demands of over 40 hours per lecture, the first five modules of the developer track were successfully delivered. These modules covered topics ranging from blockchain basics to smart contracts and consensus protocols, providing students with a strong technical foundation.
Although the final goal of developing a fully interactive dApp was not achieved due to time constraints, students gained a deep understanding of Blockchain technology fundamentals, and smart contract creation. The course’s impact was positive, with most students appreciating its relevance to future job prospects. Certification exams were partially completed, with students participating in four out of eight modules due to the limited time available.
